Entertainments | Restaurant Reviews | Dragon Palace
THE Dragon Palace Chinese Restaurant offers customers as much as they can eat for £12.80 or £7.80 for lunch, or an a la carte menu.
The buffet selection is presented in hot plates at the front of the restaurant and the smell wafted deliciously over to us as we walked in.
The service was friendly and minimal, there was no fussing and we didnít feel that we were being rushed to leave once we had eaten our fill. The restaurant was perhaps a little too brightly lit which reduced the intimacy that you got from the small tables. As a result we did feel a little on display to the people walking by on the street. Once we were shown to our table we were left to help ourselves.
The dishes were clearly labelled and there was a large choice. There were a variety of vegetarian alternatives and the vegetarian crisp beef made using soya can be heartily recommended. Particular favourites for us were the crispy aromatic duck with lamb in pancakes which we managed to finish the evenings portions of and the deep fried ribs in the garlic dressing. I tried deep fried crispy seaweed for the first time and found it surprisingly tasty.
The desserts were a little limited but were not needed after the amount of food available from the buffet. You could choose from chocolate cake or fruit salad, which unfortunately, being placed next to the hot plates we found the salads had browned a little and were soggy.
The Dragon Palace is good for an early evening meal or for lunch, its informal surroundings being more suitable for these times of day. There was enough variety to satisfy the taste buds of both the fussiest and the more adventurous eater. ***Katy Rush
