I LOVE Greek food and I was not disappointed.
We received a warm welcome and offered a drink at the bar, before going in to the restaurant. Although a modern building from the outside, they have worked hard on the inside to create a warm and friendly Greek atmosphere.
The menu choice is very broad, with lots of dishes from Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. In the end we plumped for the Meze, which is a selection of 19 dishes (I counted 21!) at £19.95 per person and a bottle of Retsina, a traditional Greek wine, which was a bit pricey at £11.95, but lovely nevertheless.
Starters was a selection of nine dips and salads served with warm pitta bread including houmous, taramasalate, battered fried courgettes and Cyprus sausage. This was followed by the fish course comprising of kalamari, red mullet and hake in a wine and dill sauce. Then came the main course, a selection of six beautifully cooked meat dishes including chicken and pork kebab, stifado (beef stew), dolma (stuffed wine leaves), served with savoury rice topped off with red wine sauce, savoury potatoes and mixed salad with fetta cheese.
The only disappointing thing was the sweet trolley’s limited choice, but being too full anyway I finished with a coffee and my husband had a glass of ouzo.
At £61 including drinks and wine, it was good value, but if you want a more lively night Tarsus have Greek nights with traditional Greek dancing and plate smashing!
If you want to recreate the memories of a recent holiday or just fancy a change from the usual, then this is the place. It’s a bit out of the way but well worth the trip.
All that was missing was a warm Mediterranean breeze and the sunset!
