Robbie’s Restaurant is one of Warwick’s newest eating establishments and, in my view, also one of its finest.
My friend and I arrived at the Smith Street restaurant on a Friday evening and, although it was busy, it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
The restaurant was small and cosy and the food was well presented and tasty.
Unfortunately, Robbie’s does not have a licence to serve alcohol.
Although this would have ruined the evening in lesser establishments, the professional and friendly staff were so apologetic our frustrations vanished in an instant.
We had decided to give the starters a miss and head straight for the main course, but as other customers were served with the likes of mushroom pate and cheese tarts, we soon began to regret our decision not to go the full hog.
I sampled the pan-seared duck breast, which was served on a bed of apple, sweet potato and pear puree.
It was accompanied by a sweet chilli sauce and was delicious and very reasonably priced at £12.50.
My friend tucked into a pan-fried tuna loin, which was marinated in pomegranate molasses and lemon zest and served on a bed of crispy seaweed accompanied with a coriander and lime butter.
Having never eaten seaweed before, he was surprised to discover just how tasty it can be.
An evening dining out would not be the same without the all-important dessert, and the speed with which our fellow diners polished off their cheesecakes and suet puddings would suggest Robbie’s has some real winners.
I can heartily recommend the fruit cocktail, although at £3 it was rather expensive.
With coffee to follow, this was an excellent and thoroughly delightful evening out.
