Carnival day held happier times before war loomed

Kenilworth Carnival floatDo you remember the Kenilworth Carnival in 1938?

Its queen Mary Mansell - now Mrs Thompson and living Shipston on Stour - has certainly not forgotten. Good friends with town historian Graham Gould, she gave him these pictures of the event.

She has also been following the Weekly News nostalgia section closely in recent weeks, as she took part in the famous Kenilworth Pageant in 1939.

The Kenilworth CarnivalShe said: "That was a wonderful time before, in September 1939, the war started that changed all our lives."
