It's a job for crying out loud (February 2005)

William JeacockDressed here in full uniform is a Kenilworth town crier who died nearly 100 years ago.

William Jeacock, the son of Thomas and Mary Ann, was buried at St Nicholas church in July 1907. He had worked as a blacksmith in New Row and High Street, before becoming a bill poster and town crier.

The photograph was taken in around 1890 by William Frederick Kimberley, who ran the Castle Studio. It shows Mr Jeacock in the town crier's outfit, given to him by the Local Board. The Board was replaced by Kenilworth Urban District Council in 1895.

The picture was given to Barrow Road historian Betty Sunley by one of Mr Jeacock's relatives, Janet Leith.
