Coronation Parade in 1937 (March 2005)

Coronation Parade in 1937This final photograph from Margaret Johnson's collection shows the children of Arthur Street preparing for Kenilworth's coronation parade.

The parade was made up of a variety of floats that travelled through the streets of Kenilworth to celebrate the coronation of George VI in 1937.

All of the children, including Mrs Johnson, who stands at the front of the photograph, wearing an ankle length white dress, sat on a float as part of the parade.

The Arthur Street children were all dressed in red, white and blue for the occassion.

After leaving Arthur Street Margaret Johnson, lived in Shrewsbury and then Australia before settling in Powys, Wales with her husband.
