Local mum, Harriet Crossley, has spearheaded a new business venture in Leamington to inspire young children to learn French.
Harriet Crossley swapped her 12-year career as a retail buyer to set up her own business following the birth of her son Chester.
She now works as a “la Jolie Ronde” French teacher running extra-curricular French clubs for 3-11year olds.
La Jol
ie Ronde was founded in 1983 and offers young children the chance to learn French from a young age.
The aim of the course is to give children a love and ability for the language at a time when they enjoy learning.
Harriet said: “I loved French as a child and growing up so close to France in Dover, Kent, I had plenty of opportunity to practise it. I went on to attain a degree in French and lived in France for two years.
“I then became a retail buyer for 12 years. However after the birth of my son Chester, I realised I needed a career that was more flexible. Now I can combine my enthusiasm for language learning and working with children.
“Primary age is the perfect time for children to soak up language skills.
“Before you know it, your child will have grasped basic phrases and songs, giving them a great head start before secondary school.
“The courses complement the National Curriculum but more than that, they’re really fun.”
The classes focus on making French fun with games, activities and songs to encourage children to learn the basics of French in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
The classes run throughout the year and Harriet is also running fun French sessions during the half term for 5-8 year olds.
Lessons will be held on Wednesday May 28 and Friday May 30 at the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club (Leek Wootton) and this half term if a child brings along a friend to the classes, they both can attend for half price.
Booking is essential as demand is high and classes are small to allow children to speak and enjoy the activities.
