Christine is helping charity to branch out

BEING a “fine ambassador” for a charity has won a Leamington woman a national award.

Christine Gore, branch secretary for the Warwick District Branch of Epilepsy Action, was presented with her award for being Branch Member of the Year at a monthly meeting on Monday night.

Mrs Gore joined the branch with her husband six years ago and has assisted its committee on many occasions.

She is known her her accurate minute-taking and the popular talks and quizzes which she holds for members.

Julie Clarke, Epilepsy Action’s manager for central England, said: “Christine has always been ready to assist with branch fundraising and member enquiries.

“She also coordinates a programme of events for the branch’s monthly meetings.

“She is a very efficient officer and a fine ambassador for Epilepsy Action.

“This award is well deserved.”

Mrs Gore said she was honoured to with the award and has thanked all of those who nominated her.

She has also thanked the people who last month helped to raise £190.66, which will support branch members with epilepsy.

The award-winning secretary added: “We have some dedicated volunteers within the branch and I am grateful for the award.”

The branch, which meets at Odd Fellows Hall in Clarence Terrace off Warwick Street in Leamington on the second Monday of each month from 7.30pm was also highly commended by the charity.

Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy and there are opportunities for people to access detailed information about living with the condition and to learn how to get involved in raising awareness in the district.

Beryl Charlotte, the branch chairman, said: “We are delighted to receive the Highly Commended Branch Award.

“It recognises the work of our local volunteers, who are a very dedicated and committed team. This is the reason why the branch continues to go from strength to strength.

“Many volunteers have a specific role which helps to ensure the smooth running of the branch.

“It has enabled us to support local people with epilepsy and we thank everyone who nominated us.

“Many friendships have been developed over the years.”
