Plans for community library get going
PLANS to set up a community library in Kineton in the face ot threatened closure are beginning to take shape.
The village’s parish council has resolved to submit a business plan for the project, which will be staffed by volunteers and managed by two parish council members and two volunteers, to Warwickshire County Council, which currently runs the service.
An application will also be made to the county council’s communjity libraries capital fund to meet the costs of providing a telephone line for broadband internet access and full access to the library management system.
Operating costs, which could be up to £3,300, will be met by the parish council. The village’s Heart Start group has agreed to assist with the cost of insurance cover for the Heart Start equipment, which will be based at the library for easy access to residents.
Warwickshire County Council earmarked 16 libraries, among them Kineton and Harbury services, which it considered as “no longer sustainable” in a report compiled earlier this year, suggesting that it may be closed. The plans form part of the county council’s savings programme, as it aims to save £2 million by 2015.
A consultation took place during the summer but it has now ended. For further details, visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk
