Warwick Gates resident and charity fundraiser Linda Smith hopes to help poor people in Tanzania by organising a 'name the panda' competition.
She felt moved to support the Village African project in the Tanga region of the country after seeing a presentation by a Leamington woman. Tina Freeman teaches English there.
People can guess the name of the soft panda for £1 and will win the bear if correct.
Mrs Smith said: “I believe in doing something not just thinking about it and Tina’s presentation made me think I had to help.
“I am epileptic and have been through lonely and hard times myself. God has given us everything in this country but we still want more.
“It moved me that they’ve got nothing.”
Tickets are available by calling Mrs Smith on 431511 or from the mother and toddler group at St Margaret’s church in Warwick Gates on Friday mornings.
