Reception children at Kingsley School looked out for garden birds, made a parrot collage and even practised picking up food with pretend beaks as part of a national birdwatch.
The RSPB’s Big Schools event started this week and runs until February 1. The teachers and young people who take part send their information to the organisation to help monitor bird numbers. With the help of their teacher, Lisa Tilley, the pupils learned about the birds that live around their Beauchamp Avenue school and homes. Miss Tilley said: “They loved it and I sent them home to spot as many different types of bird as possible. “It is very important they learn about the world around them as some of those skills can be lost. Now they keep coming up to tell me which birds they’ve seen.” 08JAN114 PHOTO BY JASS LALL
