But he has started to look for a job elsewhere after becoming so fed-up with the 'snobbish' attitude he has encountered in the town.

He says he had had been told about "unfriendly" Leamingtonians by friends who had visited, he decided to ignore their warnings and moved here anyway.

He said: "At first I thought it was all right - I found the place very attractive.

"But I've found it extremely hard to make friends - which is unusual for me as I've lived all over the place and it's never been a problem.

"And when I try to talk to people in a friendly way, they look at me suspiciously - as if I'm up to no good. When you go to pubs and bars, everyone is very reserved.

"Since I heard people say that shops like Aldi and Lidl would "lower the tone" of Leamington, I thought that perfectly summed up the general attitude around here.

"I don't socialise in Leamington anymore - I'd rather travel to Northampton and Rugby."

Glenn has a few ideas about why many of the town's residents make him feel unwelcome. He says: "I think it's because this is a very middle-class area.

"All the young people who go out at the weekend are the children of rich mummies and daddies.

"I've spoken to other outsiders who now live in Leamington and they say that residents here have a reputation for looking down on others.

"I am looking to move somewhere else because I can no longer take the attitude.

"I came here hoping to set up a base for myself. Now I find that psychologically, it's very hard to focus in this place.

"My friends have noticed that I have become quieter since I moved here - I am sub-consciously changing."
