COLTS PRESENTATION EVENING: There was a good turnout last Saturday night at the Grange Hall in Southam when the Colts junior football team annual and individual awards were presented by the team managers. The evening, organised by Gill Parks included a superb buffet supper before the presentations took place.

The awards started with the under nines team which owing to the small number of players had been supported by a couple of under eight players – Charlie Straw and Benjy Wilson. Individual awards were: Players' player: Ollie King; most improved player: Chloe Whinmill; man of the match: Nick Mayne; highest goal scorer: Ethan Skitt; manager's player: Alex Sullivan-Barker; most sporting player: Matt Best. The under tens awards followed, then under twelves, under thirteens and finally under seventeens. The under twelves had been ably supported by a number of under eleven players. Steve Dixey presented the under seventeen awards – to a team he has managed since many of them were just nine or ten years of age. This will be their last season playing for the Colts and so next year they will join the Fenny Compton football team as reserves. The evening was rounded off with a short speech from chairman Dave Finch without whom Colts would not exist.

CHARITY CRICKET MATCH: The annual charity cricket match between Fenny Compton and Broughton and North Newington for the George and Mary Hughes Memorial Trophy takes place at the Broughton and North Newington sports ground on Sunday, June 24 at 2.30pm. A considerable sum is raised each year for these worthy causes, from the raffle, teas and donations.

This year there will once again be a raffle and a barbecue, plus some great cricket. Spectators are very welcome, so please do put the date in the diary and go along to support our cricket team at this special match which raises valuable funds for the two hospices.
