Children playing in the outfield were a regular sight after matches at Warwickshire County Council cricket club
And anyone looking inside the scoring box during games was likely to see the same small figures operating the numbers.
Former clerk Mick Black brought in this team picture from 1978, when he played as an all-rounder in the side, who were then comp
eting in the midweek Joffre Pitcher League.
The county, still a presence in county leagues, also fielded sides in hockey, bowls, tennis, table tennis and snooker, bolstered by a regular intake of young clerks.
Mr Black said: "If you played any sport at all when you joined the county council you were encouraged to join the staff club."
Like many works teams of the time, the county council played to a high standard against villages and Warwickshire companies, but Mr Black remembers the strong family and social ties the club forged.
He said: "It was such a good club to be a member of. It was very family oriented, especially the cricket.
"There were several families who would turn up for matches and afterwards all the kids would be playing on the outfield.
"Other teams who visited used to stay a long time because it was such a good social gathering."
