The picture was found in the loft of Warwick Lions member Tony Atkins in Coventry Road, and one clue may come from the former owner of the house, a Miss Margaret Rushworth, who was a health visitor and “a big noise” in the Red Cross.

It was brought by Warwick Hospital League of Friends chairman Roy Joyner, who believes it was taken in the mid-1950s, possibly at the now-demolished Warneford Hospital.

Many of the women are wearing medals on their aprons and Mr Joyner believes the woman in the front row holding the trophy may be one Irene England, who worked for Locke and England at the time.

He said: “I know the Red Cross is a world-wide organisation but I didn’t realise they were such a formidable body in this area.”

The picture was taken by a photographer who appeared to sign his name as Andy Archer, but Mr Joyner is hoping readers can tell the story behind the photograph, and find it a permanent home.
