I WAS interested to read that Warwick District Council now appears to think that plastic shopping bags should be banned.
More than three months ago I wrote to the leader of the council asking him to inform manufacturers that non-degradable packaging material would no longer be allowed in Warwickshire.

Because I didn't have the backing of the Warwick Chamber of Trade, which has suggested that the plastic bags could be replaced with bags that could be bought in and around Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth, my letter was ignored and clearly, in the opinion of the council leader, didn't require an acknowledgement. - W S Baker (email address supplied).
