WITH reference to your front page article about Sydenham homes being hit by the property slump (Courier, last week), my wife and I have lived on the Millpool Meadows estate for nearly five years and we have to disagree with your article in that we think it is an excellent place to live.
Ever since we moved in, we were aware that building work was taking place and that it was due to continue for some years. It is our belief that if you move onto a new estate, then this is what you have to expect.
The area has fantastic access to
the countryside (backing onto fields and a nature reserve), excellent facilities (doctors, Asda and local shops, good local pub, excellent local schools and even the canal all within walking distance).
The estate itself has been well landscaped with several green areas, including an open green field in front of those who contributed to your headline article.
As for the site office, in the defence of AC Lloyds, they have painted the fence green, planted climbing plants, moved the compound fence back away from the road, and have carried out numerous things to ensure that existing residents are inconvenienced as much as possible. In reality, the site is peaceful, even during the day with much of the building work taking place at the rear of the estate.
As to any problems with youths or anti social behaviour, we have lived here for five years and have not seen a single incident of the type reported, and indeed neighbourhood watch and local police state that they never have issues with the estate and it has some of the lowest crime figures in the area.
We are yet to see and graffiti on the estate - how many other Leamington residents could say that?
Building works and delivery traffic had to be expected by those moving into houses right opposite the site compound, so I do not support the fact that the housing slow down will have in any way added to this. Indeed, the weight of traffic may have actually reduced. It is our view that the estate is one of the best, most desirable estates in the Leamington area. At least three houses have been sold on the estate in the last week or so, proving that there is interest and the building work does not put people off.
Yes the housing market is slowing, but we do not feel that it is right to pick out our estate in the sensationalist way that you have, as many others are much worse. - Name and address supplied.
