I WAS most surprised at John Wheatcroft in his letter headed 'Yes more homes should be built in Radford Semele' (Postbag, last week).
Unfortunately John's observations do not stand up to scrutiny.
He states that there is a lot of unclassified land around Radford Semele. This is untrue and if he examines the land around Kenilworth, where he is from, there is even more building lan
d there than there is in Radford Semele.

I was interested that the word infrastructure was used and any extension to the village would need extensive modernisation of the infrastructure which has been neglected for many years and would cost any developer a considerable amount of money to modernise.

We are considered by John as 'NIMBYs' but he sees no case to build in Kenilworth, so he is himself a NIMBY.

Radford Semele has been very protective to the Area of Restraint that provides a buffer between the village and Leamington. This is so we can keep our identity - very much like Kenilworth protects its identity.

The statement that George Wimpey owns 20 acres quite near the village is interesting. Twenty-five years ago a local famer purchased land from Wimpey and unless there is another piece of land owned by them, then Mr Wheatcroft is 25 years too late. If he considers Kenilworth instead of Radford Semele that could help his health and stop his "blood boiling".
I don't see the village elders popping their clogs or falling off their perch; I intend to be around for a long time and even to help John's health I won't drop off my perch for him.

The Regional Spatial Strategy and Warwick District Council's core strategy will put many areas under the microscope for the 10,800 and 13,000 houses that Baroness Andrews is hoping to have built in this area. At the end of the day developers may have a bigger problem working within the Baroness' rules.

Developers will have to provide 40 per cent of the land for affordable houses which will give them very little or no profit and they will have to provide the whole infrastructure at their own cost.

The council can and must comply with the government's dictates but developers are in it for money and they can and will consider the financial implications for their companies.

Let's not get into the buisiness of identifying land in other people's areas. Instead, we should just look after our own environment and protect Warwick District. - Coun Michael Doody, Godfrey Close, Radford Semele.
