OUR MP James Plaskitt may make light of his expenses with jokes about four-bedroom Mayfair flats and £750 stereos (Courier, last week), but he is spending an incredible amount of taxpayers' money.
Last year alone Mr Plaskitt managed to spend £10,000 more than the average, whilst a neighbouring MP John Maples spent £20,000 less than the average. Am I alone in wondering why our MP needs £30,000 more per year than the member for Stratford-on-Avon, John Maples?

The plain fact is that in addition to a very generous salary, and a pensions package that the rest of us would find jaw dropping, our MP managed to rack up expenses of £145,657 in just the last year alone. I don't consider that a joking matter,

Apparently he spent £87,000 last year on 'office staff'. We know that other MP's have been found to have mis-spent such staff costs. Whilst I am sure that our MP would in no way be guilty of such impropriety, it might, especially given his position as the so called 'anti-fraud Minister' be a very opportune moment to explain to us hard working tax-payers just what these staff do.

Who are they and what duties do they undertake for the Member for Leamington and Warwick? - David Brown, Sandown Close, Lillington.
