I WRITE to express my concern about the Clarendon retail arcade proposals.
As a Leamington resident for some 30 years, one of the features that has attracted me to living here is the number of small, independent businesses, making Leamington one of the most interesting shopping towns in the Midlands.

The opening of the proposed Clarendon development would, as I understand it, bring more 'big names' into Leamington. Who needs them?
The immediate surrounding areas of Leamington are dominated by 'big name' supermarkets and superstores. The last thing Leamington needs is more of the same in the town centre.

Many interesting local shops have come and gone since I moved into Leamington: Woodwards, Phoenix Bookshop, The Cornmother, Books Do Furnish A Room, to name only a handful.

Building another 'big name' shopping mall will surely spell lthe end of yet more independent traders.

Please council, think again, and reject these proposals. - Bob Dilworth, Clapham Terrace, Leamington.
