MY apologies to Mr Plaskitt. It's not his fault he faces both ways at the same time - it's those nasty Tories again (Postbag, last week). Just what planet does this guy live on?
New Labour has been in government for 11 years now. Isn't it about time they took responsibility for their mistakes? It was this present government which took away many of the profit making parts of the Royal Mail; how can they now try to destroy them by insisting that they are costing the government lots of dosh?

Doesn't Mr Plaskitt realise that it is not the government's money - it is the tax payers' money, and it is the tax payer who wants to keep the post offices open.

The sooner it is admitted that the post office network is a public service and not an industry, the sooner we can get back to the seemingly forgotten idea that the government is elected to do the people's will and not the other way round.

If we are to follow the path of destroying every public service which is 'wasting' tax payers' money, just how long do we have to put up with James Plaskitt and his friends in Westminster. - R Key (email address supplied).
