We could lose out over flood alleviation

I AGREE with everything Harry Trewren said about the Cubbington flooding situation, especially the moral obligation on the Sir Thomas White Charity (Postbag, last week).
We have been waiting a long time to find out who is responsible for surface water and now we find there is a disagreement over the funding.
According to Hilary Benn's statement to the House of Commons in December, he was "increasing funding to local
authorities by £15 million to allow authorities to take on this new role straightaway".

Six local areas have already successfully bid with management plans and I fear that if there is any delay because of internal political wrangling, Cubbington will lose out again. Nobody seems to know why all of the original alleviation scheme was not carried out.

I have been told that money has been set aside for a consultation process but I would hope that the residents of Cubbington are informed as to what is being proposed when consultation has taken place.

For a small village with very few amenities - no doctor, chemist, library etc - we already pay a high rate of council tax compared to other villages. On enquiring about this some time ago I was told the council thought it was a "nice place to live". This was before any flooding took place.

Should we now be considered for a reduction in council tax? - A Higham, Knightley Close, Cubbington.
