A battle with the big boys at Warwick Arts Centre
AIRBRUSHED beauty, boob jobs and Botox - the might of motherhood is taken on full throttle in a touring production that comes to Warwick Arts Centre this week.
Vincent Dance Theatre and its multi-talented ensemble of 11 men, women and children are bringing Motherland to the arts centre stage on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm each evneing.
The company, through a show full of victim-blaming, slut-shaming and facing the challenge of childlessness, take a look at the gender they were born into and the price they are paying for it.
Spurred on by Simone de Beauvoir, Caitlin Moran and the Spice Girls, Vincent goes into battle with the big boys, arguing against a narrow, over-sexualized definition of femininity to ask what it is that we really want.
Blending dance, text and live music in a series of constantly shifting vignettes, Motherland is a call to arms - one that sticks two fingers up at the shallow hypocrisies and inequalities of our time and asks ‘what do we hope for now?’
Motherland is commissioned by Brighton Dome and Festival, South East Dance, Corn Exchange Newbury, The Point Eastleigh and Peak Performances @ Montclair State University, USA.
Since 1994, Vincent Dance Theatre has built a national and international reputation for creating and touring engaging dance theatre work and delivering participation work across the UK and abroad.
