Clock is ticking for scavengers to capture Coventry
Coventry Cathedral
KEEN photographers of all ages are being invited to take part in a one-day photo scavenger hunt at the Herbert in Coventry today (Saturday).
The gallery and museum is working with Wikimedia UK in an attempt to capture Coventry’s history and landmarks.
Participants will receive a list of ‘targets’ to photograph. The race is then on to get the best snaps before returning to the Herbert. Prizes will be awarded for the best photos.
Anyone can participate, regardless of photography ability, whether or not they have a fancy camera or even if they have never edited Wikipedia before. The photos will be released under a free licence so they are available for use on Wikipedia and all over the world.
Harry Mitchell, who lives in Coventry and volunteers for Wikimedia UK, said: “This event is the first of its type to be organised in the UK and is great for Coventry - with the attention the city is getting because through the Olympics, it’s fantastic that we’ll be able to share photographs of the historic side of the city.”
Erin Hollis, social media assistant at the Herbert, said: “It’s really exciting to be teaming up with Wikimedia UK again. Coventry is full of historic and cultural gems and we’re looking forward to sharing them with the world through Wikipedia.”
Participants must arrive at the Herbert at 10.30am where they will receive their list of targets. The event is free.
