Coventry gallery invites families to get their glad rags on

Staff at the Herbert gallery get their glad rags on in preparation for half term activities.

Staff at the Herbert gallery get their glad rags on in preparation for half term activities.

FAMILIES can make and then parade in magical costumes using unusual textiles at a programme of free events at the Herbert gallery in Coventry.

Get Your Glad Rags On will give children the chance to create unique and colourful outfits and accessories using recycled and other alternative materials.

They will then show them off at performances on the Herbert’s stage.

The free activities are inspired by Coventry performance company Highly Sprung’s ‘Believe’ project that celebrated London 2012 by bringing 450 young performers together and performing at the Ricoh Arena. Participants in next week’s sessions can pick up ideas by looking at costumes worn by these performers.

The Herbert’s family learning officer Melanie Corner said: “For this holiday we’re mixing make and take activities with performance so that everyone involved can show off their creations.

“Working with Highly Sprung is exciting as their work for London 2012 has been really inspiring. Get Your Glad Rags On will help develop confidence and individuality.”

Get Your Glad Rags On is on Wednesday and Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
