FRENCH choristers will put on a concert with some of the finest musicians in Warwickshire at St Mary’s church in Warwick on Saturday.
Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a visit from the choir of Josquin des Prés from Villebon-sur-Yvette for the concert entitled Entente Cordiale.
It will feature a premier of a new symphony by French composer Jean-Yves Malmasson.
Quatre soleils verts is based on two poems, one by the composer, and one by the mezzo soprano soloist, Emanuelle Piget.
Also on the programme is Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, and Puccini’s Messia di Gloria.
Malcolm Rowson, chairman of the symphony orchestra, said: “The background to this concert is an interesting one in that it reflects the interests of a number of organisations.
“Some six years ago the idea emerged for a concert which would link the twin towns of Whitnash and Villebon.
Choeur Josquin des Prés was anxious to perform in or near Whitnash but required an orchestra for accompaniment and a suitable venue.
“The Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra, with its history of playing abroad, was approached along with Collegium of Warwick and both were happy to co-operate.
“Hence in March 2009 an inaugural concert took place for which the main work was the Fauré Requiem.
“Three years on Whitnash celebrates its 20th year of twinning with Villebon and this second concert Warwick is part of that celebration.
“As a climax to this Entente Cordiale, the concert will be repeated in Villebon on May 26.”
Collegium of Warwick will share the choral work and the soloists for the Puccini piece will be baritone Darren Jeffery and tenor Roberto Garcia Lopez.
Malmasson will conduct his premiere and Guy Woolfenden will conduct the Schubert and the Puccini pieces.
Mr Rowson said: “Needless to say, much preparation has gone into these concerts and special thanks are due many people.”
The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available form the Bridge House Theatre box office.
