The death of Ashley Baker after his car came off the Stoneleigh Road and hit a tree was accidental, an inquest has found.
But coroner Sean McGovern, who recorded his verdict at Leamington town hall on May 1, said the reason why the 24-year-old of Hall's Close, Whitnash, lost control of his vehicle may never be known.

Mr McGovern said: "It seems there are no definite answers other than he lost control for reasons that we don't know."

The inquest heard how Mr Baker's boss, Ashley French, was travelling to work along the B4113 on the morning of November 23y and had noticed his employee's silver Peugeot 106 in the rear view mirror of his car.

At around 8.30am Mr French, the manager of Charnwood Cars in Kenilworth, heard a loud bang and saw that Mr Baker's vehicle had crashed.

Mr French drove back to the scene, where he saw his colleague lying in the road receiving first aid from two people. He said: "By looking at the wreckage I immediately feared the worst."

A doctor's report said that Mr Baker died at the scene from chest and head injuries consistent with a road traffic accident and that his death was instant. It also established Mr Baker had tested negative for drugs and alcohol during the post mortem.

Skid tests carried out by the accident investigator from Rugby police, Pc Mark Phillip, confirmed witness statements that the conditions of the road were good. No defects, which may have caused the crash, were found on the car and Pc Philip explained there was no way of telling what speed the vehicle had been travelling before the incident.

Pc Phillip said: "He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, but in this situation I doubt it would have made a difference."

Mr Baker's mother Avril, of Franklin Road, Whitnash, attended the inquest with his father Peter and younger brother Sam.

Mrs Baker said: "Ashley has taken it with him - we will never really know what happened. I am grateful nobody else was hurt. There is a big hole in my heart."

After recording the verdict, Mr McGovern said :"I offer my condolences to you as a family.

"I am sure it was an enormous shock."
