ANGRY residents in Lillington and Cubbington are joining forces to fight plans for a housing estate that would join up the two areas.
Leaflets were distributed in Lillington, encouraging people to attend a meeting last night at which they could raise objections.

And a Cubbington parish council meeting on Tuesday was attended by six times the normal number of villagers, all of wh
om were concerned about the plans, which were a late addition to Warwick District Council's potential 'preferred options' of where to build 10,800 new houses by 2026.

Sheryl Beard lives at Hill Farm House, situated in the middle the proposed site, and will deliver leaflets to Cubbington houses asking people to object to the plans before the public consultation ends on Friday April 9.

She said: "People are not really aware of the great scale of it and I am trying to make it clear what the problems will be.

"I am up in arms about it - we're right in the middle of the thing."

The land around Glebe Farm and Tanner's Farm is owned by the Thomas White's Charity and the King Henry VIII Trust.

There are no figures yet for how many houses could be built on the site if development were approved.

An increased flood risk, traffic congestion and a loss of green space are among residents' concerns.

Cubbington parish councillor David Saul said: "If they build on it then what is sacred these days?

"Cubbington will lose its identity as a village and become more like a rural development.

"We want to send a clear message of 'no' to any developers."

District councillor Alan Boad (Lib Dem, Leamington Crown) is leading the Lillington campaign against the plans.

He has said: "We successfully won our argument to extend the green belt south of Thwaites' factory less than four years ago when we were backed by a planning inspector following a public inquiry.

"We must once again show the strength of public opinion against this very speculative proposal."
