Thieves left a farmer with a fractured skull after attempting to steal diesel from a Sherbourne farm.
The 60-year-old farmer was injured after he saw two men in a 4x4 apparently attempting to steal fuel on Wednesday afternoon.

He grabbed a metal gate and pulled it across a track in a bid to prevent them driving away.

But they continued to drive at the gate and the farmer, who was standing behind it.

The men drove off. It is not believed that they managed to steal any fuel.

The farmer was taken to Warwick Hospital where he regained consciousness, but was still being treated for head injuries on Wednesday.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call 414111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
