Top women's darts player Trina Gulliver could soon move back to Southam and feels "privileged" a walk is being created in her name.
Last week the Courier reported that a ‘Trina trail’ is planned for the town based on places of importance in the seven times ladies’ darts world champion’s life.
Specially-made benches would be installed at locations such as Linley Road, where Trina grew up, and outside the Bowling Green Inn where she learnt her craft.
Trina, who currently lives in Wantage near Oxford, has welcomed the idea. She said: “It’s a privilege that people want to do something like this. I want to move back to Southam, I miss my friends and family who live there.”
A band of residents called the Trina Gulliver Tribute Group, which includes her sister Denise Jones, is organising the trail.
And Trina - who is also a trained carpenter - suggests benches could be placed near Silverstone Builders in Pendicke Street where she was an apprentice and outside the Stoneythorpe Hotel, the scene of all her world title celebration parties.
If Stratford District Council releases special funds for the project, one of Trina’s main sponsors - Reeves Boat-builders of Napton - will make the darts-themed, metal benches.
Southam’s ‘Golden Girl’ of darts is still the world’s number one female player - despite losing her world title in January - and takes part in darts exhibitions and touring competitions.
This weekend she will drive her Nissan Primera - sponsored by Car Consultants of Ufton - to Prestatyn for the Welsh Darts Open.
She said: “I’m still enjoying it and everything is going well at the moment.”
Trina’s career takes her around the world, but she hopes to be based back in Southam at some point this year.
She said: “My house is up for sale. Someone was going to buy it and I had put an offer on a house in Brown’s Bridge, but that fell through.
“I may move in with mum or rent somewhere to start with.
“I’m looking forward to going back to Southam.”
l In last week’s story ‘Follow in the Footsteps of a Darting Legend’ it was incorrectly stated that Trina grew up in Tomwell Close and her parents still live there together.
