Thrill-seekers are risking their lives by jumping from 50ft cliffs near Leamington.
Videos of people 'tombstoning' into Bishops Bowls lakes in Harbury are available on the internet. Someone could soon be killed, say villagers.

In one of the clips, a teenager makes several tentative run-ups to the cliff edge before launching himself into the water.

Bruce Everiss, who moved to the village recently, came across the footage on the YouTube website and was reminded of a fatal accident a number of years ago. He said: "From what I can see, it's now a popular sport - among locals and others who come to the area especially for it.

"The kids in the village used to go tombstoning all the time, but then about 20 years ago one of them died, so they stopped doing it.

"Obviously the memory of that tragedy has gone now."

He added: "It's quite a good drop - about 50 feet. You have to take a run at it because you could land on the rocks."

Harbury Parish Council clerk Nicola Thompson said: "This type of activity is extremely dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged.

"The jumpers are jumping into water where there are potentially submerged railway sleepers and other hazards and the land is private property.

* 'Tombstoning' - jumping off cliffs, piers, harbour walls or other high points into water - gets its name from the apt description of the stunt used by coastal lifeguards.

* According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, it causes about 200 serious injuries and kills 15 people every year.

* The charity identified the main risks as being the depth of the water, what may be below the surface and the temperature difference - water is often a lot colder than people expect.
