Lidl's opening caused "pandemonium" along Myton Road say residents.
Nigel Robinson, of Leam Road, said tailbacks stretched from the supermarket’s entrance to Europa Way.
And at a 2pm police were called to a car accident near the supermarket, which left one vehicle damaged on the verge.
Mr Robinson said: “It’s pandemonium and in the middle of it somebody decided to build a supermarket.
“Even before the accident there were queues.
“Police had to put cones on the grass verges just to stop people parking there.
“Some shoppers are parking in Leam Road, just as we thought they would.”
The road was most busy during the Myton and Warwick school run around 3pm, Mr Robinson said.
One concerned resident had emailed him saying “Lidl opened with a bang”.
But Jeremy Ireland of Court Street, Leamington, gave an alternative view.
He said: “ There was too much stopping at the first available space, as visitors panicked and blocked the entrance, leaving cars queueing on the main road but it was all genial good natured stuff.
“Lidl will quickly solve this with a parking guy at busy times.
“If shoppers had driven instead to the empty spaces nearer the store, the Myton Road bullies would have had less to sink their teeth into.
“Makes me wonder if it wasn't them in those doddering cars.”
Lidl spokesman Marco Ivone explained there were three parking attendants at the store for its opening weekend.
He added: “We are responsible for our land - we knew it was going to be busy because it was the grand opening.
“It has calmed down a lot since the weekend. The attendants will be there for as long as they are needed.
“Overall it was a successful store opening.”
