A Warwick man who beat up his fiancée in the street has been convicted of assault - even though she would not give evidence against him.
Richard Holland, 25, of Stanton Walk, Woodloes, had denied assaulting Amanda De Voisey and knocking out one of her teeth.
But a jury at Warwick Crown Court last week took just 47 minutes to find him guilty after hearing evidence from two witnesses.
Prosecutor Tim Pole said the incident took place in the Hillfields area of Coventry in February when Holland attacked his fiancée, punching her and then kicking her when she fell to the floor.
Miss De Voisey declined to make a statement to police, but others reported the attack.
Witness John Campbell had seen it from a friend's car on the corner of Primrose Hill Street, going to help the young woman as she lay on the floor.
A woman also helping borrowed his phone to call the police, before Mr Campbell returned to the car and left.
Another witness, Claire Bamford, was sitting in a bus travelling along Primrose Hill Street when she saw Miss De Voisey with her face covered in blood.
The couple were shouting at each other until Holland walked away, followed by Miss De Voisey. He then turned and hit her with such force that she was knocked to the ground.
Ms Bamford then saw Holland knock the woman down for a second time and called the police.
Although injured and distressed, she would not make a statement. But the jury saw pictures of injuries to her cheek, chin, upper chest, elbow and forearm. She had pushed back the tooth which had been knocked from her mouth.
Holland denied he had punched or kicked her. He claimed it was Miss De Voisey who had jumped on him and attacked him, and that in getting her off him she had fallen to the floor.
After the jury rejected his version of the incident, Judge Robert Orme adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Holland, who was granted bail.
