A cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene following a road traffic collision in Honiley on Saturday morning.

A silver bicycle and a blue Volkswagen Golf collided on Honiley Road just after 10.30am.

The cyclist, an 81 year-old-man from Solihull, was pronounced dead at the scene when ambulance and paramedic crews arrived.

Police reports said the incident left “substantial damage” to both the bicycle and the car and officers are appealing for information on the collision.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews attended a road traffic collision involving a car and pedal cyclist.

“Despite the CPR efforts of an off duty police officer, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man who was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The man driving the car, a 28-year-old from Solihull, sustained minor injuries and was assessed and discharged by paramedics.

An ambulance together with a paramedic support officer in a rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance attended the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing, any information to 101.
