Dementia cafe in Leamington will hit the right notes

A café is being opened in Leamington to support people with dementia and memory problems through the therapy of music.

Age UK Warwickshire will host its new Musical Memories Café at The Moorings Bar and Restaurant on Myton Road, starting on Monday June 29.

Volunteer musicians will play requests, with guests welcome to join in and share experiences and emotions in relaxed and informal surroundings.

The café has been launched with the support of law firm Wright Hassall, Calor, The Moorings and Nicola Smyth Hair. It is free to attend and includes tea or coffee on arrival.

Linda O’Sullivan, of Age UK Warwickshire, said: “The idea for the café all stemmed from when Wright Hassall helped us to create our first charity calendar and raised proceeds to get the idea off the ground.

“We want the café to be extremely social and be a great place for people with dementia, their families and carers to drop in and relax and enjoy a drink and some music.

“The volunteers who will be playing music are brilliant, and we’re delighted musicians from Warwick School will also be playing for us.”

The Musical Memories Café will be held on the last Monday of every month (excluding bank holidays) from 10am until 12pm.
