He said: “The book is about a policeman and a homeless girl and it is available on Amazon. I started writing soon after my wife died as I wanted to keep occupied.”

The 83-year-old used to own L Thompson in Smith Street in Warwick, which specialised in watch and jewellery repairs.

As well as working on more fiction stories, the former watch repairer is also working on a book about his father, who was also called Leslie Thompson and started the Smith Street business.

He said: “I am writing a story about my father and I have had some local people who knew him on Smith Street helping me to get the facts.”

Mr Thompson is hoping people will like reading his stories and will be looking at having more published. Another book with a few of his short stories is due to be published this month.

“I shall carry on writing and get as many published as I can. I would like to think that when I am gone people will still remember me through my writing.”
