Harbury's green-fingered pupils boosted by community grant to buy greenhouse

Harbury School PTA has been awarded £4,928 from the Aviva Community Fund 2106, which will be used to purchase a greenhouse with potting shed, as part of the 20 year plan to spruce-up the school grounds.

The greenhouse will provide a permanent outdoor classroom large enough for teachers to hold small group sessions linked to National Curriculum topics and provide hands-on learning.

Earthworms, the school gardening club run by volunteer school children and adults will use the greenhouse as a base for their work helping to maintain and improve the school grounds.

Club members, who also grow and sell vegetable seedlings and bedding plants and potted bulbs to raise gardening funds, will be holding a plant sale of over 200 primroses this Spring, aiming to raise £200 towards new gardening equipment, plants and seeds.

Parent volunteers have organised working parties, including Wendy Crowder from ‘Gardens by Wendy’ and Dave Lewis from Stratford Landscapes, to clear and level the site ready for the installation of the greenhouse during the Easter holidays.
