Banker Michael Vallance is determined to raise at least £1,200 before he tackles a 100 kilometre hike through the First World War battlefields of France and Belgium on behalf of the ABF (Army Benevolent Fund) The Soldiers’ Charity.

Michael, aged 50, from Chase Meadow, Warwick, wants to honour his late great-grantfather, George Wigmore, who was awarded the gallantry medal for his part in WWI.

Others can still sign up for the walk from October 15-19 by ringing ABF on 0207 811 3201 or visiting http://www.soldierscharity.org/events/event-item/ancestry.co.uk-frontline-walk
