Delays after 'serious' road crash near Southam

Drivers are warned to avoid a stretch of Southam road after a serious collision on the A425 early on Wednesday.

Police and emergency services are at the scene in Lower Shuckburgh where two people are reported as injured following a “serious collision” on the road.

The accident was reported just before 7am on Wednesday February 10, after which the A425 was closed on a stretch between Southam and Flecknoe.

The collision involved a black Renault Laguna and a black Alfa Romeo Mito.

One person was found trapped in their car and had to be freed by firefighters who cut the roof from the vehicle.

The drivers, both men, were taken to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire with leg injuries.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a serious injury collision on the A425 at Lower Shuckburgh.

“There are delays in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the next few hours.”

Fire and ambulance crews were on scene for approximately one hour.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle, and the manner in which they were being driven, before the collision occurred is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101.”
