Members of the Leamington and Warwick branch of the Federation of Small Businesses have shown support for plans to create a new retail and leisure development in Leamington town centre.
They met representatives from Warwick District Council and its development partner Wilson Bowden at the Star and Garter pub last Thursday where they discussed their thoughts on new plans to build the £90 million Clarendon Arcade shopping centre on the site of Chandos Street car park.
The plans are yet to be finalised and will go to a public consultation before an application is made.
Linsey Luke, development manager for the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “FSB members were pleased to be given the opportunity to engage with Warwick District Council and Wilson Bowden on their plans for Clarendon Arcade.
“It is essential that any new retail and leisure development takes into account the needs of small firms and makes provision for them within their plans.
“This event gave our members the opportunity to influence the plans at an early stage .
“The FSB is refreshed to see a council making plans for a new retail and leisure development that is based within the town centre, rather than out of town .
We all know that many UK town centres are in need of regeneration and this development could help ensure Leamington town centre remains a vibrant retail and leisure destination.“
