The Myton Hospices charity is inviting people across Warwickshire to think about writing their will this autumn and raise funds for the hospices at the same time.

The Warwick-based organisation is running its annual Make A Will week from October 6 to 10, during which solicitors are giving up their time to write wills free of charge if the client agrees to donate a sum of money to Myton instead of paying a fee.

Leamington law firms Blythe Liggins, Wright Hassall and Alsters Kelley, Penmans Solicitors in Kenilworth and Warwick-based Moore and Tibbits are among the 23 firms across Warwickshire and Coventry taking part. Last year 150 wills were made during the week, which raised more than £15,500 for Myton.

Hannah Morris from Myton, who is organising the initiative, said: “Making a will is something many people put off and don’t like to think about, but it is the only way to ensure our wishes are met after we are gone. By taking part in this scheme, you can put your affairs in order and support your local hospice at the same time.”

The suggested donation for a single will is £80 and £160 for a joint will. Those who have benefited from Myton’s services can also leave a gift for the hospices in their will. The charity, whose hospices are in Warwick, Coventry and Rugby, says that the care of one in four patients is paid for using income received in this way.

People can also raise funds in memory of a loved one who has died at one of Myton’s hospices by creating an ‘In Memory’ page, asking for funeral donations to go to Myton or making a one-off donation. Details are available on the charity’s website.

Anyone interested in writing their will in exchange for a donation to Myton can contact one of the participating solicitors and make an appointment some time between October 6 and 10.
