More houses could be on the horizon in Radford Semele

Radford Semele residents are facing a continued fight against new houses in their village just days after hundreds were given planning approval.

Taylor Wimpey is holding an exhibition event at Radford Semele Community Hall in Lewis Road today (Tuesday May 3) until 7.30pm to consult the community on plans for a residential development on land off Southam Road which would include up to 115 homes of which 40 per cent would be ‘affordable’.

The development would also include a new children’s play area and associated open space.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: “We are committed to working with the local community to bring forward a development that will benefit the area.

“We value local input to our plans and the public exhibition provided local residents with the opportunity to discuss these proposals with us.”

Last week, villagers said they were “let down” by Warwick District Council’s planning committee after it approved plans for 175 homes despite growing pressures on their school and roads.

The village is currently made up of 800 houses but the new developments on the table could increase this number by up to 50 per cent.

Villager and campaigner Oliver Aries said: “There is just no thought for sustainability, the council is blindly allowing houses to suit government figures with no thought for how the people living in them will cope.

“The over riding feeling now is one of dismay. We have been let down by our council.”

Warwick District Council planners said of the application: “The scheme will contribute towards helping the council meet its five year requirement.

“The site is in a sustainable location where residents can access a range of services.
