Further indication of how land south of Warwick and Leamington could be used for major housing developments will be given at a public consultation event next week.
Warwickshire County Council is promoting its land, at Europa Way, north of Gallows Hill for a residential-led development, comprising around 480 new houses, public open space and new bus and pedestrian routes to new and existing community and retail facilities.
The proposal is part of a larger development dubbed the ‘Myton Garden suburb’, that also includes plans for a further 800 homes.
Michael Davies of Savills, working as a planning consultant for the county council, said: “Myton Garden suburb represents the most sustainable urban extension opportunity in the southern area and will also support the sustainability of further proposed development sites beyond, by providing permeable links to the existing and proposed new facilities.”
Parts of the surrounding area have already been earmarked for hundreds of new homes as part of Warwick District Council’s Local Plan - which aims to identify suitable sites for about 12,000 new homes by 2029.
This latest proposal is sure to further anger residents and ward councillors who have been very vocal in their opposition to such plans.
An adjacent 95-acre site off Europa Way has already been put forward by a consortium made up of The King Henry VIII Endowed Trust, the Charity of Thomas Oken and Nicholas Eyffler and The Gardner Trust as the location of the 800-homes making up the rest of Myton Garden suburb.
This could also include a new primary school and nursery, a ‘neighbourhood centre’, formal and informal open outdoor spaces, recreational facilities and children’s play areas, space for a small scale shop, a landscaped park alongside Myton Brook and new pedestrian and cycle paths.
And other plans to build 370 homes west of Europa Way were temporarily withdrawn by developer Gallagher Estates, along with a proposed building plot for 720 houses south of Harbury Lane.
Savills will hold the public consultation event at Myton School on Wednesday and Thursday from 4pm to 8pm on both days.
