Young people across Warwickshire have been remembering a Claverdon soldier who was killed in Afghanistan three years ago, thanks to the work of a composer and band.
The Big Secret Sound - featuring singer and former Kineton High School pupils Andrew James - and Stratford composer Chris Onslow released their charity single Soldier On on the third anniversary of the death of Conrad Lewis, who died on February 9 2011.
The artists have performing for more than 5,000 pupils, including at Myton and Kineton High Schools, while they also performed at the Royal Priors in Leamington on Saturday.
Written in memory of 22-year-old Conrad, who songwriter Andrew knew through his son’s friendship with Conrad, proceeds from sales of the single are going to 353, the charity set up by Conrad’s parents.
A description of the song on its website states: “Soldier On is about how friends and family try to connect with those heroes every hour, every day. Marching through the dark hours in to the joy of light, when you know they are still here, somewhere. Everywhere. You may resonate with the words in such a different way.”
Supporting the single is photographer Karen Massey, who took this image of singer Andrew with pupils at Myton School.
The single costs £1.29 and is available at: itunes.apple.com/gb/album/soldier-on-feat.-andrew-james/id794098162
