UPDATE: Drivers injured in M40 lorry crash

A driver was taken to hospital and another suffered back pain after a three-lorry collision involving a bridge pillar along the M40 on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway at junction 14 at 10.50am on March 11 where they found three lorries had been involved in the collision.

One lorry had overturned on the road, with the cab hitting a large pillar supporting a motorway bridge.

The driver, a man in his 30s was treated for leg pain before being taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

His injuries are not thought to be serous.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One of the lorries had collided with a bridge support and was on its side.

Its driver, a man in his thirties had leg pain.

“One of the other lorry drivers had back pain but he refused hospital treatment.

“The third lorry driver was uninjured.

“Delays are expected on both the M40 and the M42 for the rest of the afternoon.”

Warwickshire Police offices at the scene said there may be structural repairs needed to the bridge support pillar.

Three northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed between junction 16 Henley-in-Arden and junction 3A of the M42 with drivers warned of ongoing delays.
