Firefighters in Warwickshire have walked out of fire stations this afternoon (Wednesday) as part of a day of national industrial action.
There are 300 members of the Fire Brigades Union in the county, including branch secretary Marcus Giles, who was joined by colleagues staging the strike at Leamington fire station from noon.
He said: “We have been trying to negotiate with the Government for more than two years. The main sticking point is that people are being left with no job and no pension.
“The pension age has been pushed up to 60, but firefighters aged over 55 can be sacked over a perceived lack of capability. They will be left with no job and no pension.”
Chief fire officer for Warwickshire Andy Hickmott said every precaution had been taken to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum.
