In America, four people were arrested after using the game to lure players to remote places and rob them at gunpoint - or less seriously of people falling over from not looking where they are going while they play.

As the craze hit the West Midlands, a spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Please remember that your safety comes before catching that Drowzee or Squirtle.

“Let someone know where you’re going, be aware of your surroundings and follow all normal road safety advice.

“For grown ups playing, we hope it goes without saying but under no circumstances is it ok to catch Pokémon whilst you’re driving.”
