A BLUE plaque could mark the birthplace of Leamington-born Archers star Norman Painting.

The actor, who played Phil Archer in the Radio 4 soap opera for more than 50 years, was born and spent the early years of his life at 28 Grove Street.

When he died in 2009 the Warmington resident had been a patron of Warwickshire Age Concern for 18 years. The charity, now called Age UK, now hopes to erect a blue plaque at the house in his memory.

Leamington town council has applied for planning permission for the plaque, as the house is now a listed building and in a conservation area.
