Car flips over on motorway in Warwickshire

A DRIVER was seriously injured after his car flipped over and caught fire on the motorway near Lapworth yesterday (Sunday).

Ambulance and fire crews and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were called to the scene on the M40 between junctions 15 and 16 at around 1.10pm, where they found the car, a blue Skoda Octavia, had come off the road, fallen 25ft down an ambankment, and turned on to its roof and caught fire.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was trapped for almost an hour and had to be cut out by firefighters. He was then treated at the scene for head and back injuries, before being flown to the University Hospital in Coventry.

The northbound carriageway of the M40 was closed at junction 15 while investigators attended the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the car leaving the road is asked to contact Police constable Chris Scriven 415415.
