Councils pool funds for CCTV staff
TWENTY-four-hour manned CCTV coverage is likely to be reinstalled across Stratford district following an agreement made between councils in the area.
Budget cuts meant the district council had to reduce the number of staff employed to monitor the coverage of cameras across the district - including in Southam and Wellesbourne - meaning constant monitoring had to end. Now the town councils of Stratford, Bidford, Alcester and Studley have agreed to contribute towards the cost of having it brought back.
District councillor Mike Brain, responsible for technical services, said: “The district council can no longer afford to monitor, maintain and run its CCTV operation 24/7, although we still have been recording full time with monitoring at crucial times.
“District council officers and I have been working with a number of partners and interested parties to find a suitable solution.
“Residents, business and visitors alike all benefit from the CCTV cameras - they are a valuable community safety resource that provides peace of mind and reassurance and it is only right that partners contribute to this service.
“We are almost there and need to find an additional £20,000 in order to restore the full time monitoring. CCTV is an integral part of our public safety provision.”
